Computer will think?

The computation is more present in the daily life of the people. Mobile devices, desktop and portable computers are essential for personal control, company´s database administration and even entertainment game. In the past, there was much more use for data storage. Nowadays, it makes complex calculations for weather forecast with hundreds of decimal digits, processes huge archives of geographic map images, generates animation rich of details for the movie industry and analyzes the several features that interferes the profits and losses of the stock exchange using Chaos Theory and Artificial Neural Network. Where is going to the Age of the Information?

In the behaviorism line of psychology, the effects of the stimulations of the environment in the human being are analyzed. It has experiences with hamster where this was kept three days without receiving water and later it is placed in a box with a button. When turn on this button, the water is sent to inside of the box. Due to the necessity of drinking water, hamster desperately looks for solution in this new environment, turn on the button and learn to receive the water whenever feeling dry mouth. In the cognition line, the people are defined by formed mental schemas through its experience, and when they discover its standard way to think, they can change a situation that normally is difficult for them. In the psychoanalysis, the professional try to become conscientious what it is unconscious for the patient in analysis, even something that seems subjective exist a cause that generates a current state that sounds inexplicable. The study of the human behavior itself is a science, therefore if it was not, many people would not have benefited from these techniques. Human is predictable? If the human behavior can “be cured”, would it be programmed?

The painting of a picture, the melody of music, a more abstract architecture are arts that they need sensitivity to realize. Something that is subjective and very personal. What it is pretty for a person not necessarily is for another one. There are few people able to recognize a valuable picture and to differentiate a false from a true one. Maybe, this knowledge can be acquired too.

In this logic, a computer can be considered thinker when it can answer to the usual questions of the human life and not to the questions that a minority will care like the art stuff case. To think is something abstract, nobody can touch a thought. Thought is a mental process that allows the human to model his world and with this to deal with it in accomplished way and in accordance with his goals, plans and desires. And these desires are not accurate, have a certain imprecision that it can be programmed with fuzzy techniques. A computer generates program issues through formatted entrances, these ideas do not have a numerical precision, but they can be represented by number intervals and uncertainty definitions. Essentially, the capacity of the computer is to transform a given format to another one. If it is possible to prove that ideas are just transformation from another. Maybe computer can do that.

How this can be made? To understand a text can be a good start. As previously mentioned “Thought is a mental process…”, if the system acquires the knowledge of the linguistic formatting that before the verb “is” is an object that is being defined and after this verb it is its definition, this system can answer to the user the definition of the thought. If the system will be programmed to answer to the different and possible formatting of questions like “How? Where? Because? What? When?”, it will be a communication beginning with the people. There are innumerable possibilities of a phrase or an idea construction. But what it is amount for computer? For more variables they can exist, a great amount for a human is nothing for a computer. If the mind of the people can be foreseen, the ideas also can be mapped, of course, this mapping will not be perfect, but is it the human being?

If a computational systems’ reading interpretation reaches a satisfactory rightness for user questionings then means that the computer is starting to think. And in the world, the technology and science is not enough to make something new to happen. It is necessary that it has commercial financings and interests to undertake. And this will happen, because the Internet contains billions of electronic documents that can be interpreted by computational systems, and the necessity to get a semantic content more accurate will make this search by computer more necessary. If when a computer reads a recipe to make a lemon pie (that can be searched by an agent in the Web) and be able to answer how many spoons of sugar are necessary so the computer already started to think, thus it is modeling information of an accomplished way. Just like the specialist systems, focusing on the domain and the subdomain of knowledge.
